The First Tee coaching philosophy has been developed to increase awareness and effectiveness through the use of the four building blocks. These building blocks will enhance the ability to create optimal learning environments and promote positive development.
Activity-Based focuses on doing versus telling, with an emphasis on mentoring and instruction that engages youth in fun, golf-related activities geared toward teaching and applying the Nine Core Values™ to the game of golf, and everyday life.
Mastery-Driven encourages participants to focus on their own skills and experiences, while striving to set attainable goals, and work toward the process of personal achievement.
Empower youth through positive mentor/coach relationships with each participant, understanding and guiding each as an individual.
Continuous learning enforces positive aspects of the learning process through the Good-Better-How model for self-monitoring. This fosters a healthy can-do attitude which creates an environment for youth that fosters a long-term solution rather than a short-term fix. The First Tee Coach is always prepared to teach and reinforce life skills as situations present themselves. These coachable moments present an opportunity for further youth development.
